Mood absolutely not improved by the latest UK European election results. I'm working on a challenge fic and F5-ing the Beeb's running totals page every so often between paragraphs.

One seat to the BNP so far. Fuck.

Bloody UKIP (who are almost as bad) have four. Whut? MPs' expenses scandal backlash...

Tories storming it with seven (and over a million votes).

Labour trailing along with four.

Minor bright spot: Three for the Lib Dems, and one for Plaid Cymru. :)

Grr. Come on, Greens. I sacrificed a potential Socialist Labour vote in favour of you, in the name of keeping out the BNP. You don't even have a single seat yet!

East Midlands [my region] hasn't yet declared.

It sucks ass, SUCK ASS!

I was sick so didn't stay up to watch it.

EDIT: (edit! haahahahahahha) I just watched the Socialist Labour party, and they just seem to be anti-EU and anti-bailouts, which I can't agree with!

I don't know as I haven't been following it too closely (I'm busy with ours, which is going well) but it could be a good thing that there are two far right parties fighting for seats that otherwise would have taken a lot more if there had been only one.

It does suck though. You'd think Brits'd be one of the last people to vote in nazis.

You really would, wouldn't you? According to centuries of popular culture, we just don't do extremism, damn it...

UKIP and BNP have definitely split the far-right vote, yep. [livejournal.com profile] luckykaa wrote this morning - "[UKIP are] less overtly and far less consistently racist than the BNP, and I genuinely believe that the majority are simply in favour of greater independence from Europe, but they'd do well to get rid of some of their more National Front friendly members." - and I'm inclined to agree, only rather more harshly. I can see UKIP profiting nicely on the inevitable anti-BNP backlash, as claiming they're more moderate - which they are, but only by comparison to utter fascists...

I feel rather ashamed that this has happened within a couple of days of the 65th anniversary of D-Day. >.<

On a brighter note, happy the Irish ones are apparently going well!

I guess it's possible that if there were no UKIP then the BNP could have got even more seats. What a horrifying thought.

Might I ask which country your from, so I know what you mean by 'well'?

Yet another item on my long list of Reasons Why I Want To Run Off And Live In Wales...

SLP ain't perfect, definitely, but I have Issues with my kind-of-still-but-now-more-like-former party, the Socialist Party, who are part of the No2EU coalition. Especially the name: I assume they were trying to catch a few nationalist voters unawares, which backfired spectacularly, as everyone I spoke to in the office assumed No2EU were UKIP-type racists (and therefore wouldn't even consider voting for them), and the right-voting electors apparently actually read the leaflet and realised they were really a motley collection of Trots like yrs. truly. ;)

They also weren't even going to turn up to more than the bare minimum of EU meetings, which pissed me off.

SLP are my Old Reliable option for when I feel tactically free to vote hard Left, but won't feel guilty about putting my cross there on Friday morning...

If you did it on Friday morning, you'd be too late!

I don't know anything about 'No2EU', but I have to say I would have fallen into the 'UKIP-types' trap. I like the EU.

I'll read about it later. But not now!

The Guilty, Morning-After "Oh God, How Did I Vote Last Night?" political hangover, I meant. ;)

Wales rocks!

Let's all go there and open a new (RL) community, preferably somewhere near the coastline.

Right wing won here, too. *hangs ears*

Let's. XD

Right-wing won pretty much everywhere, it seems...

We're going to end up with another Tory govt. in the UK by next year, I swear. Bloody hell. I remember the last one.

Oh, it's all Doom & Gloom on the political stage at the moment...

:Tries to think about fluffy kittens. Waving red flags.:
