You know that kerfuffle a few years ago, when Delia Smith reissued all her Basic Cooking books, and critics claimed she was "patronising her audience" by including instructions on how to boil on egg? I felt like sending her a thank-you card because it meant I didn;t have to keep ringing my dad and asking him how long to leave it on the cooker for.
