I didn't make this...

"On May Day '97
The Tory junta fell -
A great night for the people!
And the morning after - hmm, well..."
~ Robb Johnson, Not A Bad Week for the People

Which is why the fact it's such a close-run race (and may result in the HUNG PARLIAMENT OF DOOM) qualifies as a vaguely optimistic state of affairs... Went and voted. Had been considering a tactical vote for the Liberal Democrats, but personal conscience and principle and having clocked up over a decade in the Socialist Party won out, so my cross was scrawled firmly beside the candidate for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (a.k.a. my mate Steve).

C'mon, then. Hung parliament? Bring it on, you bastards. Has to be better than going back to the dark days of Tory majority:

Bugger all socialist candidates to vote for here, as per :( I fear the scary photoshopped Tory will take our seat.

We had one socialist candidate! But I voted with my heart too... for Green.

Get your ass online, and let's chat through the coverage!

I'd never seen that sketch before! That is awesome. And those ads rock.

I really hope the outcome is positive!

Horay for sticking to guns!

Always pleases me when people vote for the party they want rather than tactical voting.

That said, I really want some sort of preference voting system so that you can actually do this without the most hated party having a chance.

As someone with a bizarre milk phobia, I was rather glad Maggie Thatcher was a milk snatcher... didn't stop them trying to force it on me at school and making my mum pay for something I refused to go near let alone drink!

(Would never vote Tory, even if they promised to get rid of all milk)

I agree. I think it's amazing that despite how long Labour have been in and how unpopular they, and particularly Brown are, the Tories STILL aren't a shoe in! Even the FT which is an amoral capitalist paper was saying that the "voters aren't sure if the Tories have changed", so even the FT admits that most people would pretty much need to be tricked into voting for them! I mean, they probably are going to get in, but I'm consoling myself by thinking of the cock-up and consequent PR distaster they're going to make out of it.

That's a great sketch. :)

I keep hoping that sense and kindness will prevail over time, regardless of election results.

I was quite unimpressed with the election and with the state of affairs we're in right now. The last thing we need is fucking Cameron and his tory tosspots back in at Number Ten.

And it just got worse... >.
