Well, I was working on a certain something with a view to utilising it in a project of my own, and by immensely satisfying (not to say gleeful) coincidence,
katieforsythe happened to reference the very same object in her latest fic, Cauldron.
So, I thought I'd post it now as a small gesture of thanks to Katie for providing us with such a plethora of bloody brilliant H/W work.

As those who have seen a couple of my other posts here and there on Watson's army career will no doubt recognise, the actual photo is originally that of Surgeon Major Alexander Francis Preston, Medical Officer of the 66th of Foot (yep, Watson's regt.) at Maiwand - and the very chap ACD reputedly based the character of Watson upon. You can find more info on him, and the original picture, at The Wardrobe website here.

[Argh, missed a few (c)s in the clean-up. Sorry.]

And I have just clicked, seen and grinned extremely widely. Brilliant! XD I agree there should definitely be lots more Uniform!Watson.
We had a couple of Zulu War (just a couple of years off Watson's period of service) blokes at the re-enactment event I did last Saturday, and I was admiringly eyeing up their uniforms for future H/W reference... :-)

There was a Watson in Uniform in the last episode of the Russian Holmes series!

[Shameless uniform spamming: I'm on page one in pics 7624 and 7623, in the daft hat and big greatcoat*. And a little bit of my hat is in 7740. That's fame for ya. ;-)]
*I had a cold and was feeling rather :-P, so spent a lot of time huddled in that and blankets by our tent, doing a one-woman impersonation of the Retreat From Moscow. ;-)

And the fact that Holmes and Watson keep invading each other's personal space a lot in these series helps too. X)

I read that part of Cauldron with a smile and a nod. Oh Holmes, we may have little in common, but I know of a least one trifle we share...

And I'm with yer on the second part. [grins] Couldn't resist!

Thanks should really go to Preston for being so very dashing (from the neck down, at any rate.)
Holmes' reaction? But of course... ;-)
